Obra de Eduardo Chillida situada en la parta más alta del Cerro de Santa Catalina. El artista eligió hormigón porque le permitía lograr el inmenso tamaño que ideó: 10m de altura, 15.5m de largo, 12.5m de ancho y 140m de grosor. Además, sus tres voladizos se situan a ocho metros de altura y miden dos metros.

El pasado sábado 6 de abril se presentó con gran éxito en
el auditorio de Arquímedes 4 el espectáculo “Halawet el
rakes/ el placer de bailar. Danza árabe” a cargo de grupo
de danza que se prepara en el Gimnasio del Parque Asturias
bajo la dirección de Laila Akele Achcar. El grupo está integrado por
las siguientes bailarinas: Mónica Flores, Brenda Mingramm, Mara
Viniegra, Alma Andrade, Sofía Sánchez, Edith Flores, Laila Akele
y Jorge López. Participaron como bailarinas invitadas: Patricia
Orozco, Karla Rodríguez, Yumana Tannous Akele, Francis Barrera
Manjarrez, Eva Arce Marín, Ximena Aislinn Jiménez y Tomás
Sebastián Gómez. El Vestuario fue de Luz María Olmedo.

El programa que interpretaron fue el siguiente: Layahli, Baile
de salón (coreografía Jorge López), Danza al Viento – Abanicos
(música: Mohamad Aly Soliman), Fusión doble velo (música:
Apocalyptica-Cold Blood), Danza Contemporánea (coreografía,
Yumana Tannous, Tomás Gómez y Ximena Jiménez), Koket –
Dalaa (música Kazem al Saher), Baile de Salón (coreografía Jorge
López), Desert Dream (música: Amir Sofi), Entre mujeres – Ghir Enta
(Música: Souad Massi), Derbake (música Mohamed Ali/Yoursy
Sharif) y Sable (música Mario Kirlis).

La Danza Oriental es una de las danzas más antiguas del
mundo, que combina elementos de diferentes países del Medio
Oriente y Norte de África, aunque sus orígenes precisos son inciertos.
En los países árabes esta danza se conoce como Raks Sharki
que significa literalmente Danza Oriental. El nombre Danza del
vientre se empieza a utilizar en el siglo XIX por los europeos que
viajaron a los países exóticos en busca de nuevas culturas, costumbres
y paisajes. Estos viajeros acuñaron este término sorprendidos
por los movimientos de vientre y cadera que no existían en las
danzas europeas.

A lo largo de los años, se han ido incluyendo algunos elementos
tradicionales como, por ejemplo: velos, sable, bastón, velas,
crótalos, alas de Isis, entre otros.

Aparte de ser una manifestación artística, la danza oriental
se ha adaptado como programa de ejercicio. Al tratarse de un
entrenamiento cardiovascular completo y fortalecer los músculos
abdominales, está ganando popularidad entre mujeres que desean
perder peso, ganar flexibilidad, mejora mucho la postura. Es una
disciplina que no tiene límite de edad ni complexión física.
